Why Study History of Chemistry?

History of chemistry begins with the origin of science, when science was indistinguishable from religion. The better label for this blend of science and religion is philosophy. We study the history of chemistry because it contextualizes our knowledge.

The Ancients

The ancients weren't chemists --  they were little better than cavemen when it came to actual science. Magic blended seamlessly with science and little real forward thinking was made.

The Greeks

The Greek philosophers cleared the way for logic, order and the scientific method. Socrates' school of thought spawned Aristotle and Plato, who quickly revolutionized the world.
